10 Classic Style Movies

April 17, 2009

[source: Los Angeles Times via HBO and Rialto Pictures]

If you drive East down Wilshire Blvd. right as you pass LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) you’ll see a huge promotional ad for the new HBO series “Grey Gardens.” Great ad placement, by the way. Bravo HBO (pun intended). And since HBO shows are always well-executed i.e. Sex and the City, The Wire, Big Love, etc. I’m pretty excited for this new show.

Anyway, the reason I bring it up is because the LA Times ran a feature on it and in related stories I saw this article re: “10 Classic Style Movies.” It basically makes the same point I tried to make in my previous post about movies about fashion versus movies that actually influence fashion.

More examples:

Style films that packed a punch? Insiders’ Favorites

Scene Stealers: Movie costumes that started fashion trends

Observe that none of these films were “about” fashion.

So yes, I win.
